Secondary school teachers play a crucial role in the development and support of pupils.

Not only do they help prepare them for exams to move into further or higher education, or launch straight into a workplace, they provide vital support and guidance to pupils for life beyond the familiarity of their local school community.

Highland Heroes 2023 will celebrate and thank the amazing teachers across the region with the secondary school teacher of the year award.

The award will be presented to a secondary school teacher who has made a significant difference to the learning experience of their pupils.

Barratt and David Wilson Homes North Scotland is sponsoring the award for secondary school teacher of the year.

David Palmer, managing director from Barratt and David Wilson Homes North Scotland was delighted to support Highland Heroes.

“Teachers have such an important role in the lives of our young people, more so than ever before, and secondary school is a key period in a child’s development as they prepare for adult life beyond school. Teachers give so much more than lessons in class and exam preparation, and it is important that we give thanks to our amazing secondary school teachers for all that they do for our young people and their families.”

The 2022 winner was Dingwall Academy guidance teacher Molly Alexander. Molly was just one of those very special teachers who went above and beyond for her pupils during the unprecedented times of the Covid pandemic.

A nomination for Molly praised her dedication to her pupils: “Miss Alexander has been with us every step of the way, and has been the most incredible support. She has gone out of her way to help and show just how much she cares. She has never made it seem like she is ‘just doing her job’ she has gone above and beyond at every stage.”

Highland Heroes is sponsored once again by Inverness Airport and features 14 categories where you can nominate individuals or groups in your community who you feel have gone above and beyond to support and care for others.

Each week, your favourite Highland News & Media websites and newspapers have included special features about each of the categories along with all the details of how you can nominate individuals or organisations in your community.

Once all of your nominations are in, our judging panel will face the difficult task of whittling down your entries to create a shortlist.

All the shortlistees will be featured in our special supplement where you will be invited to vote for your Highland Heroes of 2023.
