Highland Heroes is back for 2023 so it’s time to start thinking about all the amazing unsung heroes in your community who deserve a great big thank you!

Sponsored once again by Inverness Airport, Highland Heroes feature 14 categories where you can nominate individuals or groups in your community who you feel have gone above and beyond to support and care for others.

New for 2023 is the Green Hero award which will be presented to an individual who is helping to create a cleaner, greener future.

Each week, your favourite Highland News & Media newspapers and websites will include special features about each of the categories along with all the details of how you can nominate individuals or organisations in your community.

As well as the 14 main categories, there is also a very special accolade which will be presented at the awards ceremony at the Macdonald Drumossie Hotel, Inverness on Friday, March 10, 2023.

The Hero of Heroes will be decided by our judges from all of the winners at the ceremony and revealed on the night!

Graeme Bell, Inverness Airport General Manager, said the airport is happy to be supporting Highland Heroes again, to celebrate the unsung heroes of our communities.

“The awards are a great way to thank the people that selflessly offer their time to help others, without asking for anything in return. We are looking forward to being able to show our appreciation towards them and what they do for others.

“I would encourage everyone to show their support for the awards and nominate those that you think are deserving. Supporting our local community is so important to Inverness Airport, and the awards are a wonderful way to say thank you for letting us be a part of that community.”

Highland News & Media Publishing Director Steve Barron added: “Highland Heroes is definitely my favourite event each year.

“Hearing stories of bravery, dealing with adversity and going above and beyond to help those less fortunate is incredibly humbling and absolutely inspiring. The very least we can do is celebrate these heroes and shine a spotlight on them.

“I’m encouraging all of our readers to take a few minutes and nominate heroes from their communities – we’ll make sure they get the recognition and thanks they deserve.”

But first it is over to you. Tell us all about your local superheroes, the people that have gone the extra mile – or miles – to help you or perhaps support others in their community or even further afield. Once all of your nominations are in, our judging panel will face the difficult task of whittling down your entries to create a shortlist.

All the shortlistees will be featured in our special supplement where you will be invited to vote for your Highland Heroes of 2023!

The deadline for nominations is midnight, January 6, 2023.
