Inverness Caledonian Thistle booked their place in the fifth round of the Scottish Cup as they saw off Lowland League outfit Broomhill at the Caledonian Stadium.

Charlie Gilmour gave Inverness Caledonian Thistle the lead on the stroke of half time.

Broomhill were then reduced to 10 men when captain Michael Miller was sent off, but new signing Alex Samuel on loan from Ross County, saw his penalty saved.

However, he made amends when he nodded home a corner after the hour mark to put daylight between the two teams.

Adam Brooks killed the game off with 20 minutes remaining with a thunderous low strike and then grabbed his second with a cheeky back heel in the closing minutes to book their place in the fifth round.

Inverness Caledonian Thistle made five changes to the team which lost 1-0 to Dundee United last week.

Alex Samuel, who arrived at Inverness from Ross County, made his debut with Cameron Mackay replacing Mark Ridgers in goal.

Wallace Duffy, Aaron Doran and Nikola Ujdur also came into starting line up replacing Cameron Harper, Daniel Devine and Nathan Shaw dropped to the bench.

Broomhill had an early chance in the opening minutes when Darren Miller's cross found Ben McCrystal in the box but fired wide of the left post.

At the other end, Inverness had the ball in the back of the net when Samuel's cross found Aaron Doran whose shot took a deflection off Wallace Duffy and flew into the net.

But Duffy was standing in an offside position and the goal was disallowed.

Samuel was then gifted a chance to give Inverness the lead after the half hour mark when he sent through by Morgan Boyes, by thrashed his effort wide of the right post.

Duffy then head a great chance to give Inverness the lead on the stroke of half time when he connected with a pass from Max Anderson.

But Broomhill goalkeeper Luke Scullion did well to parry the ball out for a corner.

However, Inverness did take the lead on the stroke of half time when Samuel's pass found Gilmour on the edge of the box 20-yards from goal and his thunderous strike flew past Scullion to give them the lead.

Inverness had a chance to double their advantage at the start of the second half after Michael Miller was sent off as he received a straight red card for bringing down Doran.

But Samuel's shot was stopped by Scullion to keep Broomhill in the game.

However, Samuel did double their advantage midway through the second half when he got on the end of Longstaff corner to nod home from close range.

Substitute Brooks, who was signed from Celtic at the beginning of the campaign, grabbed his second competitive goal for the club when he lashed a thunderous low drive past Scullion from the edge of the box.

In the closing minutes, he then back heeled a Longstaff free kick from close range to round off the scoring.

The draw will be made on Sportscene on Sunday night.
