The age-old ceremony to proclaim King Charles III the new monarch has been completed on the steps of the Inverness Town House.

Though he became sovereign at the moment of Her Majesty The Queen's passing, the proclamation formally recognises his official accession to the throne.

The Lord-Lieutenant for Inverness James Wotherspoon started the proceedings before the proclamation was read out by Derek Pyle, the Sheriff Principal of Grampian, Highland and Islands.
