King Charles III has been proclaimed Sovereign at a ceremony in Inverness recognising his official accession to the throne.

Earlier, Highland Council Convener Bill Lobban said the ceremony taking place in Inverness was an “exceptional honour” for the Highlands.

The Lord-Lieutenant for Inverness James Wotherspoon started the proceedings before the proclamation was read out by Derek Pyle, the Sheriff Principal of Grampian, Highland and Islands.

Mr Wotherspoon said: “Following the passing of our late sovereign Queen Elizabeth II, our sadness at this time is shared by people across the globe, as we remember with affection and gratitude, the lifetime of service given by our longest reigning monarch.

“Today's ceremony marks a formal Proclamation of the beginning of our new King's reign. It is now my duty to introduce Sheriff Principal Pyle Grampian, Highlands and Islands who will read the accession proclamation.”
