Inverness will get the “exceptional honour” of hosting the proclamation of Accession of His Majesty King Charles III as Monarch.

The ceremony will take place tomorrow at 13.00 just outside the Town House where it will be read out by Derek Pyle, Sheriff Principal of Grampian, Highland and Islands.

Following the regional ceremony in Inverness, the proclamation will then be read locally by Highland Council Civic Heads or Area Chairs at 13:30 at the following locations:

  • Dingwall Town Hall
  • Dornoch Cathedral Green
  • Fort William Parade
  • Kingussie - Gynack Gardens - Garden of Remembrance
  • Nairn Remembrance Garden
  • Portree - Somerled Square
  • Wick Market Cross

Members of the public are invited to attend any of these events.

In line with the protocol, the Council has arranged for the Union flags to be flown at full mast from 11:00 onwards from today to mark the Accession of His Majesty King Charles III

But they will be lowered to half-mast from 13.30 onwards on Sunday September 11 for the period of mourning.
