THE public voted for their favourite Inverness city centre businesses and the results are now in.

Inverness Business Improvement District (BID) City Centre Awards were held on Tuesday, where establishments such as salons, cafés, retailers and offices all took home trophies.

The annual event gives people of Inverness a chance to thank the businesses that make a difference to the community, and recognise them for their achievements.

Winner of the independent takeaway of the year award was Miele’s Gelateria.

Business owners Michael and David Miele were present to take the prize home, and said their success would not be possible without their wonderful staff or generous customers.

David said: “We are over the moon, and can’t believe we’ve won this award.

“Without the public we don’t exist. Thanks so much for always supporting us and going that extra mile to vote for us.”

Michael added: “We are proud of our team, everyone has attributed to this.”

There were two prizes given to each category – one for the most highly commended and then another for the overall winner.

Alison Martin, director at Macleod and MacCallum, winner of the office of the year category, commented: “We are delighted, it was absolutely unexpected.

“A big thank you to everyone who took the time to vote for us.”

Marks and Spencer’s Café won the national café of the year category. Jeanette Runacres, team manager, said: “I’m ecstatic for my team. Without our customers we are nothing – so a big thank you.”

Bookshop manager of Waterstone’s, Peter Sim, said: “I am delighted. It is such a pleasure to be voted for by the public.

“Its the second time we’ve one and I think it is testament to what we do.

“We try to put our shop at the heart of our customers experience, and try to make it something special for them to do.

“A big thank you to them all and we’ll see you soon!”
