Schools in Nairn will remain closed today after a water supply was interrupted in many areas of the town.

Nairn Academy, Rosebank and Millbank Primary will all be closed for the day after a burst main near Howford Road on left many households and businesses with no water supply.

After announcing a delayed opening earlier today it was decided to close for the whole day due to the disruption continuing across the area.

A Millbank Primary spokesperson said: "As we still have no water and heating and there hasn't been a further update from Scottish Water, we have taken the decision to close today. Apologies for any inconvenience."
A Nairn Academy spokesperson said: "Due to the timing of information around the water supplies, plus pressure on staffing with the local primaries closed we unfortunately will not be open today as anticipated."

The issue was first reported at around 3.40am and has impacted households as well as several businesses across Nairn.

Fusion Cafe, The Classroom and Nairn Library are among those who will remain closed today – whilst other shops such as Brambles on the High Street, the Co-op and the Community and Arts Centre will be open as normal.

Lucy Harding, Nairn BID manager, said that there seemed to be a 50/0 split of opened and closed businesses this morning.

She said: "Unfortunately there is not an awful lot we can do other than wait uto see what Scot Water are going to do. Hopefully the issue will be fixed soon."
