UPDATE: Man dies after Caledonian Canal incident

A man has died at the Caledonian Canal in Inverness after emergency services were scrambled to reports of someone in the water on Tuesday morning.

Two ambulances, two fire appliances, a critical care paramedic, boat team, and police were called out to the canal near the new swing bridge at around 9.40am after being "made aware of concern for a person" in the water.

Confirming the person had sadly died, a police spokesman said:: “We were made aware of concern for a person in the Caledonian Canal in Inverness shortly after 9.40am on Tuesday.

“A 31-year-old man was subsequently recovered from the water. He was pronounced dead at the scene and his next of kin are aware.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
