A man and woman have been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run in Inverness city centre.

Police confirmed on Friday afternoon that they had arrested the pair as part of ongoing enquiries in relation to an incident in Greig Street on Thursday morning.

A cyclist was struck by a van in the street at around 8.50am on Thursday, and the van was reported to have driven away without stopping.

It was not reported if the cyclist was injured or not, but the Scottish Ambulance Service later confirmed that they were not called to the scene.

A mass police presence was later spotted in South Kessock, with roughly 10 police cars and vans, and numerous officers, spotted in and around the area of Kessock Road.

Police later confirmed that this presence was part of their investigations into the hit-and-run and, although they did not say what had brought them to that part of the city, aerial photos of the scene showed a grey van with a smashed windscreen left parked or abandoned on public grassland nearby.

Issuing an update on Friday, police said: “A 32-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman have been arrested in connection with the incident [in Greig Street] and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”

The location of their arrest was not reported.
