TRANSPORT agencies are gearing up for more severe conditions on the roads network with a Met Office Amber weather warning kicking in this afternoon.

Traffic Scotland has shared images taken on the A835 at Aultguish as well as shot from the A9 in Caithness.

It is reminding road users that snow and ice warnings remain in place throughout today with Amber warnings from 3pm in the North.

The weather warning states:

  • Heavy snow will lead to travel disruption on Tuesday afternoon and evening.
  • Travel delays on roads are likely, stranding some vehicles and passengers
  • Some delays and cancellations to rail and air travel are likely
  • There is a good chance that some rural communities could become cut off
  • Power cuts are likely and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected

The Scottish Government says its resilience operation has been activated in response to the Amber weather warning.
