Schools in Nairn were expected to return to normal today (Tuesday) after a major water outage in the town forced them to stay closed on Monday.

Scottish Water engineers worked through the day on Monday to fix the outage, with supplies reportedly returning to normal yesterday evening following the successful repairs.

And, in an update to parents and pupils, Nairn Academy revealed that it was expecting to be open "as normal" on Tuesday.

In a message posted on its website, the school said: "Thank you to all for your patience and understanding. Not an ideal start to the week for anyone. It is always a difficult decision to close or not but the safety/wellbeing of staff and pupils is always our main concern.

"We can now update ahead of [Tuesday] – Scottish Water havenoted that works have been underway across today with the aim to have the system fully recharged. We should therefore be open as normal tomorrow (Tuesday) at 8.45am.

"To note, on these rare occasions, we use our school blog and school Facebook page for quick communication to parent/carers. In the case of adverse weather, there are additional means of communication (refer to the school website – https://nairnacademy.wordpress.com/adverse-weather."
