A Scottish Water team is working to fix a burst water main in Nairn following a damage in the early hours of this morning which had potential to affect thousands of households.
Engineers are at the site near Howford Road to excavate the damaged water main and carry out a repair.
Scottish Water confirmed that the affected water main supplies the centre of the town and had potential to affect water supplies for around 4000 customers.
The widespread interruption of water supply resulted in Nairn schools closing for the day as well as several businesses which have been affected.

Updating their customers they said that by around 9am engineers were able to re-route water through unaffected parts of the town’s water network in order to restore supplies to the majority of affected customers.
A spokesperson for Scottish Water said: “We would like to apologies to customers in Nairn for the disruption to normal water supplies this morning.
“Our first priority is to restore normal service as quickly as possible. The work we have carried out this morning should restore supply via the local water network to most of the homes and businesses initially affected.
“We are making progress with excavating the damaged water main in Howford Road, so that we can return the network to normal operation and restore normal service for everyone – and currently estimate that repairs will be complete by late afternoon.”
