An Inverness fundraiser is hoping to raise £2500 to help Fort William FC get new CCTV equipment following a spate of recent vandalism incidents.

The club’s Claggan Park ground has been targeted by vandals, with a number of seats being damaged and parts of the newly laid pitch lifted and taken away.

When he heard the news William Corbett, who has had a lifelong association with Clachnacuddin FC, felt he wanted to do something to help out.

He described Fort William as “the friendliest club in the Highland League”, with Clach having always been made to feel welcome at away fixtures there.

The 65-year-old painter and decorator, who lives in Kessock Road, Inverness, has set up a Go Fund Me page to help out.

His online appeal is already well on its way to his target.

He said: “I’ve made a lot of good friends at Fort William FC. I was just disgusted [by the vandalism] and my heart goes out to them.”

The club is hoping to use the money to improve CCTV at the ground.

Former player and manager Calum Maclean said: “It’s amazing what he’s done. I couldn’t believe that he was doing it for the club, but he has a soft spot for us.

“He has got a heart of gold that man.”
