MANAGER Duncan Ferguson says a draw at Partick Thistle was a good result for Inverness Caledonian Thistle despite only leaving Glasgow with a point after a 1-1 draw.

Max Anderson scored the quickest goal in the club's history when he found the net after 19 seconds to give Inverness the lead.

Partick Thistle equalised in the 15th minute through Jack Macmillan but neither side were able to find a winner at Firhill.

Inverness finished the match strongly and created chances to win the game, but Partick Thistle held on for a draw in dreadful conditions.

Ferguson believed his team were better than Partick Thistle in the second half, and despite failing to win, was happy with a draw.

He said: "I thought we were brilliant, I thought we started well and got a quick goal.

"We played really well and took an early lead, but they got back in it.

"Their boy dances through and the goal we conceded wasn't great, but our football in the second half was fantastic.

"In the second half we were the better team."

Inverness won a number of corner kicks towards the end of the second half, but were unable to guide the ball into the net despite going close.

Ferguson said: "We just couldn't get a head on one of them, there was claims for penalties and we could have had one on another day. It didn't come for us but i'm well pleased.

"We had lost two games back to back which is not easy to take, but we stopped that now. We came to Partick who are a top of team and pushed them all the way."

Full back Jake Davidson, who signed for Inverness after playing for Queen's Park last season, was Caley Thistle's best player against Partick, creating a number of opportunities in the second half.

Ferguson was full of praise for the player and said it was unfortunate nobody couldn't finish off the chances he created.

Ferguson said: "Particularly in the second half, being on the other side from me I think he was a bit nervous on my side.

"The second half he was excellent, some of our play in the final third was really good, combinations and ideas on the training field showed on the pitch which is a good to see as a coach.

"There were a lot of opportunities but we couldn't find the final ball.

"A lot of defensive stuff was really good but they also had a chance in the last five minutes. But I was well pleased."

Inverness remain in eighth place in the Championship, one point ahead of Arbroath, who were denied victory by a last minute equaliser in a 1-1 draw with Dunfermline Athletic.

Ferguson says the bottom six teams are in the relegation battle this season, and it is up to each of them to get out of it.

"You have to look after yourself," he said.

"The top four teams are out of the relegation battle but the rest are in until they aren't

"I thought we played well against Arbroath, not so much against Morton in the first half, but we defended our box better, other than the goal.

"We are always going to score goals, we are a creative team who create chances who are good on the ball, they need to be better off the ball. But on the ball we are a good team to watch."
