Inverness Caledonian Thistle couldn't get the Christmas present that they wanted as they were held to a draw against Partick Thistle at Firhill.

Max Anderson gave Inverness the lead after 19 seconds which is believed to be the fastest goal scored in the club's history.

The previous fastest goal was when James Keatings scored for Inverness after 35 seconds in a 3-2 win over Buckie Thistle in the Scottish Cup second round in 2021.

However, Jack McMillan equalised for Partick Thistle in the 15th minute with neither team able to find a winner.

Manager Duncan Ferguson kept faith with the same starting 11 that lost 2-1 to Arbroath last week.

Inverness broke the deadlock after 19 seconds when Billy Mckay was allowed to surge into the box, he laid the ball off for Anderson who was left free to fire a low drive into the net to put the visitors in front.

But Partick Thistle levelled the game in the 15th minute when Blair Alston was allowed to surge into the box and his shot took a ricochet to fall at the feet of McMillian to fire home from close range.

Inverness went close to regaining the lead at the start of the second half when David Wotherspoon's pass found Anderson in the box.

He was unchallenged to fire a low drive from 12 yards out inches wide of the right post.

Partick responded when McMillan went close to getting their second when his shot had to be cleared off the line by Danny Devine to keep the game level.

Luis Longstaff came close to finding a winner for Inverness in the closing stages when his low drive was blocked by Sneddon.

Inverness claimed for a late penalty after Cameron Harper claimed he was brought down in the box but the referee waved play on as both teams settled for a point.

Inverness Caledonian Thistle round off 2023 when they take on Greenock Morton at the Caledonian Stadium on Saturday, December 30.
