INVERNESS Caledonian Thistle manager Duncan Ferguson praised the performance of his team for producing a professional job to see off plucky Lowland League outfit Broomhill.

Inverness are in tomorrow's fifth round draw after a 4-0 win at the Caledonian Stadium on Saturday.

Charlie Gilmour put Inverness in front on the stroke of half time before Alex Samuel scored on his debut and Adam Brooks netted a double in the second half to book their place in the fifth round.

Broomhill were also reduced to 10 men early in the second half when captain Michael Miller was sent off after receiving a straight red card.

Ferguson says other results in the Cup showed there was always the danger they could have been the victims of an upset, but said his team were always in control of a match where they could have scored more.

"We created a lot of chances and managed to take four of them, it could have been seven or eight," he said.

"The red card didn't help their situation and it took time to break them down. But in the second half we dominated.

"We are in the next round that is the main thing, other teams have struggled today and it shows how tough the cup is."

Alex Samuel made his debut for Inverness Caledonian Thistle after being signed on loan from Ross County until the end of the season.

"Alex did very well and I thought that he made a big difference for us.

"He is somebody to pass the ball off and to hold off and connect it up there.

"He is strong, showed his experience, he has a lot of minutes under his belt.

"He has had a lot of substitution appearances but not a lot of starts.

"I was really happy with his debut."
