Former Inverness Caledonian Thistle club captain Sean Welsh has left the club, it has been confirmed.

The 33-year-old had been linked with a move to Championship rivals Queen's Park in recent days, and would now be free to make the move to Glasgow.

It brings an end to a four and-a-half year association with the Caley Jags for Welsh, who moved to the Highland capital in August 2018.

In that time, Welsh made a total of 143 appearances, scoring 16 goals.

He will have many fond memories of playing for Inverness, reaching the semi finals of both the Premiership play-offs and Scottish Cup in his debut campaign – in which he also was named the club's players' player of the year.

Taking over the captaincy in 2020, Welsh then helped ICT to the Premiership play-off final in 2022, before leading the team out in last year's Scottish Cup final.

Welsh has scored in the earlier rounds against Premiership outfits Livingston and Kilmarnock to help them get back to Hampden in the first place.

Caley Thistle's statement read: "We thank Sean for all his contributions while at Inverness Caledonian Thistle and wish him the very best in the future."
