Inverness Caledonian Thistle caused a massive upset in the Scottish Cup as they hammered Livingston at the Tony Macaroni Stadium to reach the quarter finals.

Two goals in the second half from Billy Mckay, with Sean Welsh finding one in between sent the Championship outfit into the draw for the last eight, which takes place at 5.30pm on Monday.

Head coach Billy Dodds described the result as the best during his time as manager.

Livingston are fourth place in the Premiership and had only lost once in their last eight matches, as they went into the game as heavy favourites.

But they were left stunned as Inverness burst into life in the second half to claim victory.

Caley Thistle were only re-entered into the tournament after their fourth round defeat to Queen's Park after it was found Euan Henderson was ineligible to play in the match.

Inverness made two changes for the clash against Livingston with Welsh and Nathan Shaw coming in for Zak Delaney and Aaron Doran.

The first chance fell to Livingston as Steven Bradley's free kick from the edge of the box threatened to find bottom left corner. But Mark Ridgers pulled off an excellent save to tip the ball around the left post for a corner kick.

Inverness threatened little in the first half, but with eight minutes remaining before the break, Nathan Shaw charged from halfway and his pass found Daniel Mackay on the left wing.

He fired a pass across the face of goal which Billy Mckay couldn't quite reach from six yards out.

Inverness took the lead seven minutes after the break, Jay Henderson sent a ball over the top to Billy Mckay unchallenged. From just inside the box, he launched a rocket straight into the top left corner for his 13th goal of the season.

They doubled their advantage just after the hour mark. Nathan Shaw's cross found Sean Welsh, who leapt like a salmon out of a river of Livingston defenders to nod the ball into the net.

Billy Mckay then killed the game off with 10 minutes remaining when he fired a thunderous effort past George to make it 3-0 and his 14th goal of the season.
