WALLACE Duffy says if Inverness Caledonian Thistle continue to give away soft goals and fail to score, they know where they will finish up in the league.

The defender gave an honest assessment of his team’s current form and where it could take them at the end of the season if things don’t improve.

He described Caley Thistle’s 2-0 defeat at Airdrie on Tuesday as their worst performance of the season so far.

Inverness have failed to win in their last five matches and have only won once in their last eight games.

Duffy says the team know they have to change things quickly to move up the table and avoid a potential relegation dogfight at the end of the season.

He says there has to be a determination to improve across the park.

“As much determination we have to defend, we need it attacking, we need a mix of both,” he said.

“If you can’t score and give away slack goals, you know where we’re going to be in the league.”

Both Airdrie’s goals came from set pieces in the second half with former Inverness striker Nikolay Todorov giving them the lead before Callum Fordyce scored, both with headers from close range.

After full time, manager Duncan Ferguson was sent off due to his protests to the referee.

Duffy thought it was Caley Thistle’s worst performance of the season.

“It was a poor performance and probably the worst that we have played even though we’ve not got the results in the past month.

“We deserved what we got to be honest.

“Two lapses of concentration at set pieces was really demoralising because we actually defended well during the game.

“Giving away headers in the centre of the six-yard box was disappointing. The gaffer had a word with us that it wasn’t good enough. We only started playing when we were 1-0 down and showed a bit more urgency which is what we should be doing from the off.”
