Inverness Caledonian Thistle have gone five matches without a win as they suffered a 2-0 defeat to Airdrie at Excelsior.

Former Inverness striker Nikolay Todorov gave Airdrie the lead midway through the second half before Callum Fordyce killed the game off with six minutes remaining.

Inverness remain in eighth place after Arbroath and Queen's Park below them both lost, but have not won in their last five matches since beating Queen's Park on December 9.

Inverness Caledonian Thistle made three changes to the team that drew 0-0 with Greenock Morton on Saturday.

Luis Longstaff was brought in to play up front in place of Billy Mckay who was dropped to the bench.

Wallace Duffy came in to replace Danny Devine at centre back with Sean Welsh returning to replace David Wotherspoon.

After a first quarter of little note, Airdrie created the first real chance when Mason Hancock burst into the box and fires in a low ball which Mark Ridgers got fingertips to, but nobody in an Airdrie shirt could take advantage of the loose ball.

Airdrie should have taken the lead 10 minutes before half time when a scramble in the box after a corner kick saw the ball fall to Charlie Telfer.

But his shot in the six-yard box lacked any power and was straight at Ridgers who gathered comfortably as both teams went into the break goalless.

Airdrie started strongly in the second half and Ridgers was forced to pull off a good save from Kanayo Megwa.

But the hosts did break the deadlock midway through the second half when Todorov got on the end of a Telfer corner and nodded home from close range.

Airdrie killed the game off with six minutes remaining when Fordyce got a header on the end of a Telfer free kick to make it a miserable start to 2024 for Inverness.
