Inverness Caledonian Thistle striker Billy Mckay has blasted supporters over claims that his son was verbally abused during their match against Dunfermline Athletic last night.

The club's all time top goalscorer took to social media to write that his son was the target of verbal abuse in the 0-0 draw at the Caledonian Stadium on Tuesday night.

Mckay (35) missed a penalty in the 0-0 draw, with the result leaving them in the relegation play-off zone in the Championship.

After the game Mckay took to Twitter claiming that verbal abuse was directed at his son by fans.

In the message on Twitter he wrote: "Not big on social media, obviously gutted I’ve cost the boys three points tonight hold my hands up!

"And listen I’m happy to take abuse or criticism at me no problem had it plenty of times in my career.

"But to shout my son then abuse me to him I don’t think is acceptable."

Mckay is Inverness Caledonian Thistle's all time leading scorer with 108 goals in 278 appearances for the club.

He returned to Inverness Caledonian Thistle in 2021 from Ross County, after previously playing for Inverness from 2011 to 2015.

He also spent time on loan at Inverness from Wigan Athletic in 2017.

In July, Mckay signed a new two-year contract with Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
