Billy Mckay signs new contract with Inverness Caley Thistle as Northern Ireland striker looks set to break club's all-time goalscoring record

Inverness Caledonian Thistle have tied Billy Mckay down to a new contract until the summer of 2025.
The 34-year-old striker had reportedly been approached by Ayr United after a complicated contract situation that had seen him trigger an option that Mckay chose not to activate, which meant he would have been free to leave the Highland capital this summer.
However, the Caley Jags offered him a new deal irrespective of that clause in the hope of tempting him to stay, and Mckay has now put pen to paper.
Voted last season's double player of the year by his teammates and fans alike, as well as claiming the club's goal of the season award, Mckay scored twice at Hampden Park as Inverness saw off Falkirk to reach the Scottish Cup final.
Those strikes also moved him on to a century of goals for the club, putting him just one behind the all-time record set by Dennis Wyness.
Head coach Billy Dodds told the ICT website: “We’re delighted that Billy has extended his stay with the club. Billy is a key player for us, he was our top scorer last season and is an ultimate professional.”
“While he had offers from a number of clubs, some of whom were competitors in the Championship, the club had worked hard to make sure that Billy helps get us back into the Premiership and stays where he belongs, here at Caledonian Stadium.”
The new deal extends Mckay's third stint with Inverness, having previously played for the club between 2011 and 2015 while later returning on loan in the second half of the 2016/17 campaign.
In that time, he has made 246 appearances for Caley Thistle across all competitions.
