Ron Chapman was 21 when he volunteered for the RAF rather than wait to be called up to the army, and was 26 when he was discharged.

Hundreds of thousands of young men and women gave up what we now think of as the best years of our lives in order to make sure future generations could live in freedom. We must never forget the sacrifices they made for us, many making the ultimate sacrifice, as well as others living with horrendous injuries.

Once a year on Armistice Day we gather in public places and churches to remember them, we should never forget them. A simple way, is to support Poppyscotland and buy a poppy or other merchandise because unfortunately our young men and women are still suffering injury and death while protecting us.

Remember the pop hit 19 talking about the Vietnam war and 19 was the average age of the US army soldiers fighting in Vietnam. WWII soldiers weren’t much older. Ron was my dad, he came home safe and sound and enjoyed the rest of his life, many didn’t! Never forget.

Motorists see red over car park

This happened to me in May [problems with Rose Street retail park car park].

The parking app wasn’t working, so I couldn’t pay as only had my cards on Apple Pay and the machine didn’t take that (thought I could pay on the app).

Anyway, I got a fine and appealed and have since lost the appeal and now face a £100 penalty! It wasn’t that I couldn’t pay it was that the app that they say that you can use for payment wasn’t working.

Sort out what is near Inverness Castle

While the castle at long last may provide something to do for an hour or two for the thousands of tourists who come to Inverness, something has to be done to rid the town of the horrible, horrible concrete box below it.

The view of the castle should be one of the iconic Scottish sights but is totally ruined by the horrific architecture below.

Praise for John!

Can I just say how much I appreciate John Dempster’s weekly Christian Viewpoint in The Inverness Courier. It’s short, reflective and always worthwhile. Thanks again.
