Coach journeys and cruises are bad for the environment

Is there any point in wasting time and effort on a climate change committee?

Net zero, it’s a joke. They want to ban cars from Academy Street but this is acceptable:

Yesterday (May 17) marked the busiest day on record for coaches bringing tourists to Inverness.

Inverness BID welcomed in 63 coaches at the coach drop-off point on Ardross Street, which brought hundreds of people to the city centre.

Forty-three of the coaches came from the two cruise liners that are docked in Invergordon.

These coaches travel empty from Banff , Buckie, the west coast, and then travel back again. Empty. What is green about that?

A bus from Banff to Invergordon to take passengers to Inverness, return them to Invergordon, and then the bus return to Banff, is 238 miles.

They only carry passengers for 50 miles of that.

All the time these liners are docked they are pumping out exhaust gases (too).

Religious representatives on the education committee serve with love

It is with some disappointment that I and others read and learn that the voting rights of religious representatives on the Education Committee have been removed at the recent council meeting, as reported by the paper and other news outlets over the last few days.

My experience of having served on this committee for three years is that we did not bring “religious dogma” with us in our discussions or our decisions as we voted. However, I did and those still serving represent the people and the faith schools in which we serve and therefore a much wider community.

With only three people represented in this group there is little chance for us/them to change education policy. It is sad to see that both the history and culture of both the past and the present is to be eroded in this decision.

The religious representatives offer much more than perhaps has been realised by the people who brought this motion and I for one would welcome them to see the work that is undertaken to serve our communities without any “religious dogma” but moreover is offered through love and service for all we meet in our daily lives; something that surely has much more in common with our elected councillors than has been noted in the bringing forward of this motion.
