Can I attempt to make the unpopular case for not dualling the A9?

I love the road going south from Inverness. The climb up Drumossie brae, the twists past the soldier’s head, opening up to the jaw-dropping view of the Cairngorms at Carrbridge, past the iconic distillery at Dalwhinnie then the climb over the dramatic Drumochter Pass and beyond to Perth.

I really don’t see the need to dual the road and turn it into another bland motorway which might, if not congested, save a few minutes on your journey.

Safety is said to be the reason for this huge investment. But surely the main cause of the vast majority of collisions is speed with average-speed cameras greatly reducing the casualty count. Further, dual carriageways can have some horrendous crashes, as we know from Munlochy junction.

We can’t, realistically, dual the entire A9 from Stirling to Thurso, so why not address the problem directly? Slow the road with well-policed road safety measures, reduce traffic volumes by investing in rail and then all enjoy the fabulous roads we already have.

Complaints mounting about Inverness city centre car park

I went into Starbucks [at the Rose Street retail park] early one Saturday morning in June. The app wouldn’t work so what else could I do?

I ended up getting a fine. I’m not paying it because their pay machines weren’t working either. The stress over this is awful.

I received another letter threatening me to pay £170 or their debt collectors will be in touch. Why?

Their machines at the time weren’t taking coins and their app wasn’t working so this issue isn’t mine it’s the company who bought this car park. It’s an absolute disgrace!

Highland Council should be sorting this issue out. It’s a stress that we all don’t need!

I appealed [a parking ticket from operators of Rose Street retail park car park] and was fined £170.

I’d been for a biopsy the same week and I could not have walked round the car park looking for signs that have parking notices on.

I have since paid up as they’d have charged even more.

It’s hard to afford. Brittania should not be allowed to profit when cost of living is squeezed.
