SNOWY weather has sparked the closure of the Culloden Battlefield visitor centre.

The National Trust for Scotland confirmed the news via its social media channels.

The closure came after heavy snow hit parts of the Highlands during the morning commute, and with an active yellow weather warning for further snowfall today and early tomorrow.

A spokesman for the battlefield visitor centre said: "Due to the poor weather conditions here at the battlefield, we will be closed to visitors today.

"Please take care if you are out on the roads.

"We hope to be open again tomorrow but will update this page as soon as we know."
