WATCH: Highland Action for Little Ones named charitable organisation of the year as '1 in 5 children lives in poverty'
Highland Action for Little Ones (HALO) has been named as charitable organisation of the year at the Highland Heroes Awards.
HALO was set up in December 2022 and provides children’s clothes, shoes, nappies, and toiletries to families in need, ensuring the most vulnerable receive support quickly.
The team, all volunteers, are described as, ‘a great representation of the kind and caring community we live in.’
On winning the award, HALO chief operating officer, Mel Thomson said: "This is going to be amazing for raising the profile of the charity throughout the year and allowing us to reach the people who need our support the most.
"1 in every 5 children in the Highlands lives in poverty. When something even as simple as a warm jacket in winter or baseball cap in summer means that they can play outdoors, it prevents bullying and it helps with mental health, and especially children's mental health."
The charitable organisation of the year award was sponsored by W M Donald, Civil Engineers.
