Hill walkers are being warned of path diversions and limited parking at a popular access point for Schiehallion.

The John Muir Trust, which owns the Munro, says that contractors will start repairing damage to the new low-level Foss Loop easy access path near the base of the mountain following a storm earlier in the year.

It means that the loop will be closed for three days from Wednesday, July 8. During this time, there will also be a diversion for the main Schiehallion path, through a field and along a hill track. Maps and diversion signs will be on site, but the JMT added that parking spaces at the Braes of Foss car park will be reduced.

Land Manager Liz Auty said: “It is unfortunate that these repairs are coming just as we’re expecting a few more visitors as lockdown eases. Our aim is to make the new Foss Loop path safe as soon as possible, with the minimum of disruption. There will be reduced parking during the works, so walkers may wish to plan a trip to another location to avoid disruption."

The JMT is also planning to carry out repair work on the mountain path this summer. It will be closed for two days – provisionally set for July 20 and 27, weather depending – when a helicopter lift will bring stone onto the site to build steps and drainage features.
