Visitors to Inverness told ‘sorry for the mess’

An angry tour guide called for Inverness to be renamed Invermess due to the litter building up on city centre streets.

“I arrived in Inverness on Sunday with a coach full of tourists and I felt I really had to apologise to them all afterwards,” he said, wishing to remain anonymous.

“I understand why the bins are not being emptied but a lot of this was simply litter with takeaway packaging being most noticeable.”

Strikes over pay are being carried out by waste workers and street cleaning staff.

City centre litter bins were emptied today, but street cleaning did not take place.

Some business waste collections in the city centre did not take place today.

Inverness recycling centre was closed today after being open on yesterday.
