Rubbish is beginning to pile up in Inverness city centre.

Strikes over pay are being carried out be waste workers and street cleaning staff.

The action which started on Wednesday is expected to last eight days.

One shopper in Inverness said: "You can tell the difference without the street cleaners, for sure. The place looks filthy.

"Some of the bins are overflowing but others aren't so people need to be sensible and not try and put rubbish in bins that are already full."

Some riverside bins were also overflowing today, with litter on pavements beside them and some rubbish on the river banks.
