Services will resume at Strathspey Steam Railway as The Flying Scotsman undergoes inspection.

Strathspey Steam Railway has announced that its services will be running over the course of the weekend, after Friday night's accident which saw The Flying Scotsman collide with another train in Aviemore.

Services will resume from 11am today, but the Ivatt 26512 will haul the train, as The Flying Scotsman awaits inspection after being involved in last night's crash.

A spokesperson for Strathspey Steam Railway said: "On account of the incident previously intimated, our Saturday and Sunday services will now run, although Ivatt 46512 will haul the train whilst the Flying Scotsman (FS) locomotive awaits inspection.

"Due to the current circumstances, we need to cancel the 9am Flying Scotsman departure, but we intend to operate the 11am departure but with our own Ivatt 46512, and therefore FS ticket holders can travel on this and the following timetabled services. This is an evolving situation and we will keep you updated.

"We ask for your understanding in what has been a difficult situation as we recover the position and any further updates will be posted to this channel.

"Refunds will be processed, in due course. It is proving difficult to answer all posts individually (we apologise) as the day begins and preparations for what is being offered are under way.

"The Royal Scotsman carriage set involved in last night's incident is being taken to shed to avail through inspection which will clear Aviemore Platform 3 for today's services."

Railway representatives had earlier indicated that all weekend services had been cancelled as a result of the crash.
