One person has been taken to hospital and three others treated for injuries at the scene of a crash on the A96 near Ardersier earlier today.

Two vehicles were involved in the collision shortly before 3pm on the Inverness to Aberdeen road at the junction with the B9006 Croy and Cawdor road and the turn-off for Fort George.

Police, firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) says three fire appliances from Inverness and Nairn were scrambled at around 2.51pm.

One of the SFRS' specialist units also attended.

The SFRS said its crews were only required to make the scene of the crash safe, and left the site shortly at around 3.09 pm.

Police have been approached for comment.

Traffic Scotland said the road was "restricted" in both directions for a period of time, but the route is now free-flowing.

A spokesman for the Scottish Ambulance Service said: “We received a call today to attend a road traffic collision on the A96 at 2.49pm and we transported one patient to Raigmore Hospital.

“A further three patients were treated and discharged at the scene.”
