A man has been rescued from the waters of the Beauly Firth by a passing boat.

Emergency services were alerted earlier this morning to reports of a person in the water near the Kessock Bridge in Inverness, with a lifeboat, an HM Coastguard helicopter, police and the Scottish Ambulance Service all rushing to the scene.

The man has been safely recovered from the water and is in the care of medical staff.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were made aware of concern for a person in the Beauly Firth around 7.50am on Friday, July 14.

“The man was recovered safely by a passing boat. He was transferred to a lifeboat and returned to shore and passed into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service.”

A spokeswoman for the Maritime and Coastguard Agency said it followed a mayday alert from a vessel passing through the area at around 7.45am.

"Coastguard rescue teams from Inverness and Cromarty, a lifeboat from Inverness and the Coastguard helicopter from Inverness were sent to the scene," she said.

"The casualty was recovered by a nearby vessel and the Coastguard helicopter conducted further searches with nothing else found."
