UPDATE: Alternative transport arranged for train passengers as engineers prepare to inspect damaged rail bridge in Inverness

Alternative transport has been arranged for rail passengers travelling north of Inverness after a lorry hit a rail bridge in the city.

Engineers have yet to carry out an inspection for damage of the structure in Lower Kessock Street.

A ScotRail spokesman said: "We’re sorry to customers who’ve experienced disruption to their journey.

“Anyone delayed by 30 minutes or more can claim money back through our delay repay guarantee on our website or mobile app.”

He added that alternative arrangements were being made for affected customers.

The incident which happened at 11.10am resulted in the closure of the Far North Line and Kyle Line and there was also disruption to local roads.

It is understood a recovery vehicle is now at the scene.
