A BUSY trunk road has fully reopened to traffic following a crash earlier today.

The A87 was briefly closed in both directions following a collision between Shiel Bridge and Cluanie this morning.

Publishing an alert on its website at 10.52am, Traffic Scotland had advised drivers to use alternate routes. It also released a map suggesting the location of the crash was in the area close to the site of the 1719 Battle of Glen Shiel.

It later published an update shortly before 1pm to say that the incident had now "been cleared" and traffic was moving freely again.

There were no immediate details as to the number of vehicles involved, or if there were any injuries.
