UPDATE: 37 year-old man to appear at Inverness Sheriff Court today after major police incident in Merkinch

A 37-year-old man has been arrested and charged after a “disturbance” provoked a huge police response in Inverness.

Armed officers, firefighters and ambulance crews rushed to a property in the Madras Street area of Merkinch on Thursday afternoon.

There were reports of a stand-off between police officers and a man being seen standing at a window within the property.

Police Scotland have not given any detail on the nature of the incident, but a force spokesman said: "Around 3.10pm on Thursday, April 18, officers attended a property in the Madras Street area of Inverness following a report of a disturbance.

"A 37-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection. He is due to appear at Inverness Sheriff Court on Friday, 19 April, 2024.

"A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
