Three people have been rescued from a sinking fishing boat in an operation involving an HM Coastguard Inverness helicopter.

The chopper was scrambled this afternoon after reports of the fishing vessel colliding with a tanker in the Firth of Clyde between Arran and Ardrossan.

Another coastguard helicopter from Stornoway and RNLI lifeboats from Troon and Arran took part in the rescue.

The emergency response was triggered at around 3.15pm today (Thursday) after reports of the incident between Troon and Brodick.

Three people from the fishing vessel involved were rescued by lifeboat and are said to be safe and well.

The fishing boat sank at the scene.

CalMac services were delayed while the MV Isle of Arran assisted with the mayday call.
