An emergency crew from Inverness is among those scrambled after reports of a collision between two vessels in the Firth of Clyde.

UPDATE: 3 people saved from sinking fishing boat in Firth of Clyde rescue operation involving HM Coastguard Inverness

An HM Coastguard Rescue Team helicopter from Inverness joined one from Stornoway and RNLI lifeboats from Troon and Arran after the incident between Ardrossan and Arran at around 3pm today (Thursday, April 25).

The accident is understood to have involved a tanker and a fishing boat, but details are still emerging.

Ferry company CalMac has also diverted the MV Isle of Arran, which was due to arrive in Brodick at 4.15pm, to assist with "an emergency" with delays for passengers on board.

Reports elsewhere say an RAF Poseidon aircraft was also seen circling the area of the incident as emergency crews arrived at the scene.

A coastguard spokesperson said: "HM Coastguard is coordinating the response to reports of a vessel collision on the Firth of Clyde this afternoon, April 25.

"Alerted at around 3pm, coastguard helicopters from Inverness and Stornoway and lifeboats from Troon and Arran RNLI have been sent to the scene."
