Tickets for most Highland Chieftain services in January have been reinstated after being temporarily removed.
Tickets for most Highland Chieftain services in January have been reinstated after being temporarily removed.

Tickets are now back on sale for direct LNER train services between London and Inverness in January after they were previously removed.

Passengers planning to travel next month on the Highland Chieftain – which provides a direct daily daytime service between the UK and Highland capitals – had encountered difficulties when trying to book tickets.

The operator's website previously stated that for operational reasons, its Inverness services were currently off sale in January.

An LNER spokesperson said: " We were advised of potential engineering works that would affect part of the Inverness route in late January.

"To avoid disruption to people's travel plans, we temporarily removed tickets from sale for some dates on our Highland Chieftain services.

"Most services are now back on sale and customers can find the latest information on our website."

Further information can be found at www.lner.co.uk.

It is understood there is proposal for engineering work at Ratho near Edinburgh.

A spokesman for Network Rail said the work had not yet been confirmed.
