Vandalism at an Inverness cemetery is likely to be upsetting for a lot of people, says a Highland councillor.

Police are investigating after gravestones were toppled and bins were set on fire.

Inverness Millburn councillor Isabelle MacKenzie said: "It is shocking that this is happening.

"I'm not sure if it is a one-off or part of a bigger picture.

"Certainly, for any visitors to the cemetery, this will be distressing.

"People from across the city have links to that cemetery so this will upset a lot of folk."

She said the culprits showed no respect.

"There seems to be a growing problem with antisocial behaviour like this around Inverness," Cllr MacKenzie added.

"There have been problems at Whin Park for instance, so it seems to be a growing issue."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers have been made aware of vandalism at a cemetery on Glenurquhart Road, Inverness.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”
