A group of Travellers have set up a makeshift camp prompting the cancellation of this Saturday's Inverness Parkrun.

Highland Council is aware of the unauthorised encampment and a spokeswoman said: “Our staff are liaising with the people involved and progressing the ‘Policy on supporting co-operation and managing unauthorised camps’ which sets out the multi-agency responsibilities and arrangements for responding to roadside encampments.

"A copy of the policy can be viewed on our website at: www.highland.gov.uk/gypsytravellerspolicy

Organisers at Torvean Parkrun told followers on social media: "Early heads up – our park is unavailable this week and we regrettably have to cancel.

"Enjoy the chance to run at Aviemore, Alness, Elgin etc if you are able to."

No announcement has been made in relation to a Walk for Parkinson's charity event, which is due to be held at the park this Sunday.

There was similar disruption last summer when Travellers arrived at the same location in June 2022.
