Highland Hollywood star Karen Gillan is set to join another iconic franchise this weekend – after she revealed she will be playing a guest role in The Simpsons.

The Inverness native – who is known to fans worldwide for her work as Amy Pond on Doctor Who, Nebula in blockbusters like Avengers: Endgame and The Guardians of the Galaxy, and Ruby Roundhouse in the Jumanji franchise - will be playing Groundskeeper Willie's new girlfriend in the long-running animated series.

Taking to social media this week, she said: "I can finally announce the role I was born to play. That's right folks, I'm Groundskeeper Willie's new Scottish love interest in The Simpsons.

"SO honoured to join this legendary show!!! Episode airs this weekend."

Her post featured an image of her character dancing with Willie while Bart Simpson looks on.

Responding to her post, Simpsons writer-producer Michael Price said: "It's our honour to have you join us!"
