Run by the Armed Forces charity, Poppyscotland, the appeal provides the nation with a symbol of remembrance in the lead up to Remembrance weekend.

In return, communities across Scotland make donations to Poppyscotland enabling the charity to continue to provide vital welfare services to veterans, those currently Serving, and their families.

The cheque was presented by Roddy Wood, the poppy convener for the Inverness branch of the Royal British Legion Scotland (RBLS), who thanked local people for their generosity .

“I would like to thank very much all the volunteers who helped out in seven supermarkets and the people who distributed and collected nearly 700 poppy cans to businesses in and around Inverness,” he said.

“The generosity of the people of Inverness and surrounding areas was tremendous and will go a long way in helping our veterans in time of need.

“We are always looking for volunteers to help with the poppy collection. If anyone wants to help please phone me on 07599 501374.”

Gordon Michie, Poppyscotland’s head of fundraising and learning, said: “Roddy and his team have provided Scotland’s Armed Forces community with a tremendous gift.

“Their tireless efforts and comradeship have allowed them to raise a record-breaking total.

“We want to thank Roddy and his team of volunteers for the work they do every year to support our charity.

“They go above and beyond, and, in turn, we are then able to support our Armed Forces community through the provision of first-class welfare services.”
