Parents of pupils at a city centre primary school have been told to keep their children at home until after the Christmas holidays.

Central Primary School senior pupils in primary five to primary seven were sent home this morning, with an order to self isolate.

It is understood that senior members of staff are also self isolating.

One parent told the Courier: "We have been told there are multiple cases in the school.

"Pupils in primary five to primary seven have been told to self isolate for the next two weeks, and to return to school after Christmas.

"We have also been told that a senior member of staff has to self isolate."

A Highland Council spokeswoman said: “A group of individuals from Central Primary School have been advised to self-isolate for 14 days by Health Protection Scotland. Letters were sent out to the school community.

"All necessary action has been taken at the school and the setting remains open."

She continued: “The Highland Council continues to work in partnership with NHS Highland Health Protection Team.”

The two school classes will return after the Christmas holiday period.
