Pictures: Roast beef, Yorkshire pudding and friendship on menu at Inverness lunch club event

New friendships were forged and old ones renewed over lunch at an Inverness community centre.

About 90 people from across the city and Ardersier attended a joint lunch club event hosted by Merkinch Community Centre.

The centre’s development officer, Elsie Normington, said the lunch had been a huge success.

“People met up with old friends and the place was buzzing with joy and anticipation,” Mrs Normington said.

“The theatre space was all decorated with various shades of balloons and green napkins to match with lovely candles on the tables creating a lovely ambience.”

Volunteers served the lunch club members their meal which included roast beef and Yorkshire pudding with vegetables, trifle and a chocolate roll.

“It was quite an operation but everything went very smoothly and all the folks really enjoyed it,” said Mrs Normington who played the keyboard afterwards as part of the entertainment which included singing and an occasional dance.

Her acapella group, Songbirds, also sang and Eddie Docherty sang solos Some Enchanted Evening and Bring Him Home.

“As everyone was leaving, they said they had a most beautiful afternoon and were all so appreciative of being invited along,” Mrs Normington said.
