Ness Castle Primary and Nursery School in Inverness was officially opened yesterday following a movie-themed pupil-led end-of-term assembly.

Youngsters broke up for summer today, after moving into the £15 million school in February.

Head teacher Craig Connon said: “The staff, families and, most importantly, the children absolutely love their amazing new space. The children have settled in so well and are thoroughly enjoying learning in creative and imaginative ways.”

Highland Council's education committee chairman John Finlayson officially opened the school.

“The school is both fresh and modern in its new façade but also in its approach to providing first-class education which is evident throughout the school," he said. "A school is at the heart of every community and yesterday signified exciting new beginnings for the vibrant community here in Ness Castle and Ness-side.

"Clearly the building of new schools and the ongoing improvement to our school estate continues to be a priority and with support from the Scottish Government we will hopefully see many more new schools being built across Highland in the near future.”

The school has been designed to allow it to be extended in a phased manner to provide up to 24 classrooms to meet the future demand from house building in the catchment area.
