When the Inverness Courier visited a makeshift Traveller encampment in Torvean Park today, in the south of the city, another caravan was spotted leaving the site.

They arrived early last week and started to leave over the weekend – however there were still around four or five vans pitched there this afternoon.

Officers from Highland Council have spoken with the group and a spokesman said: “The Highland Council is continuing to liaise with the gypsy traveller group and progressing the ‘Policy on supporting cooperation and managing unauthorised camps’ which sets out the multi-agency responsibilities and arrangements for responding to roadside encampments. A copy of the policy can be viewed on the council website.”
