Firefighters are still working to extinguish a blaze that destroyed a former care home in Inverness - more than 14 hours after it started.

Flames engulfed the derelict Clachnaharry Nursing Home on Clachnaharry Road in the early hours of this morning, with emergency services alerted at 4.14 am.

There were no reports of any casualties.

Police closed the A862 Clachnaharry Road through most of the day, but announced a short time ago that one lane had reopened.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “One lane of the A862, Clachnaharry Road, has been opened to traffic.

“Temporary traffic lights are in place and likely to remain in operation overnight.”

Six fire crews were initially deployed to the building and four currently remain at the site.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: “Four of our crews and appliances remain at the site which has been extensively damaged and are working to dampen down the remaining areas of concern.”
