Six fire crews were called to the Clachnaharry Care Home building, which closed in 2013, just after 4 am this morning.

Police have cordoned off and closed the A862, Clachnaharry Road for traffic approaching the city from the west and just past Blackpark Filling Station for traffic leaving towards Beauly.

Motorists are being asked to avoid the area.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “We were called to a fire on Clachnaharry Road at 4.14 am, with six fire crews attending.

“They found the building well ablaze and are still in attendance.

“Our teams are using two main jets, with three further main jets in place and a portable ground monitor also in use.

“We are not aware of any.”

The building is believed to have been derelict, but plans were submitted several years ago to turn the site into a block of 31 one-bedroom self-catering holiday apartments.

Police Scotland have been contacted for comment.

Bus services have been diverted as a result of the blaze.
